General

Dental Materials Science and Oral Diagnostics of ACTA study and teach on the interactions with the clinical performance of the synthesis, composition, structure, and physical properties of the hard tooth tissues (enamel, dentin), the restorative materials (gold, ceramics, composites, etc.), and indirect materials (plaster, wax, alginate, etc.). This implies that the department has interactions with practically all other disciplines in Dentistry.

Currently Hot Topics

  • Biocompatibility, interactions, and side effects (analysis of saliva, release of potentially toxic or allergenic components like remnant setting agents, acrylics, or metals like mercury, nickel, chromium, etc.)
  • Cad / Cam Ceramics (Zirconia, fracture toughness, fatigue, analysis of restoration configurations, etc.)
  • Color (recording, metamerism, ceramics, composites, etc.)
  • Extensive Restoring (buildups, root posts, sealing properties, adhesive bridges, design considerations, structural materials, full or partial crowns,  fatigue loading, implantability, etc.)
  • Orthodontic wires (brackets, cements, fatigue loading, etc.)
  • Setting and shrinkage behavior (cement gaps, restoration parameters, composites, glass-ionomers, etc.)
  • Simulated wear (occlusal wear, composites, glass-ionomers, fluid mechanics, toothpaste wear, etc.)
  • Etcetera, etcetera.
